Curvy Handmade Giftbox

Instead of buying one, make your own super easy, unique gift box!

 What you will need:
-2 peices of 12x12 cardstock, (size depends on how large you want your box)
-glue
-scissors
Here is a template that I created:
 1. Print out the template and scale it to the size of paper you would like to use.
2. Do not cut corner squares completely off, you will just cut one side. They will be used as tabs to glue to the rest of the box.
3. Create two sides with this template, one for the top and one for the bottom of your gift box.

Spicy Chicken Wing Recipe

This is one of my obsessions...chicken wings! So right here on Craft Envy. I have the d@*$ recipe for you to try! I would love to hear from anyone who tries it out!

 What you will need:
-Hot wing sauce and butter
-Bag of wings
-Battering mixture: flour, seasoning salt, cayenne
-oil for frying

1. Defrost the wings. While they are still really wet, dip them in the flour mixture and fry em up! (Flour, seasoning salt, and a dash of cayenne).  *This is what really sets apart these wings from other recipes!*

2. While your wings are frying, pour in some of your hot wing sauce and butter into a sauce pan. Cook on low. Then toss your wings in the sauce in a separate bowl.

3. Enjoy!

Thumbprint Height Board

So today, we have a tutorial on how to make a height board for your kids. This one is for a boy, actually, but you can easily adapt the idea. Your kids can help mark their height by using a thumbprint, and you get to preserve their thumbprint everytime you measure them! I'll show you how...

What you will need:
-1   1x6x8  pre-painted hardboard
-6  themed foot markers
-self adhesive velcro
-1  ink pad
- scrapbook paper (lamination optional)
-square
-permanent marker
-paint and small brush (feet numbers)
-hot glue gun

1. Get your foot markers out:  I used six ship helms from Michael's. Peel the stickers off the back.

2. Paint the inside where your number is going to be. Once it's dried, paint the numbers in a contrasting color.

3. Have your board cut down to about seven feet or cut it down yourself.

4. Using a square or ruler,  measure and mark each inch with a pen or pencil. I made the inches, half foot, and foot marks progressively larger lines.

5. With your square, go over each inch mark with a permanent marker.

6. I used a peice of tape on the edge of my board to make cleaner marks with the permanent marker. I marked my board to about six feet five inches. No one in my family is that tall so I figure that's safe. But consider your family history when deciding how tall to make your board.

7. Hot glue your foot markers at the appropriate height. I placed one of the helm handles over the foot mark.

8. With your scrapbook paper and a printout of your childs name, create a cover for the inkpad to camoflage it. Laminate the cover since it's going to get touched with inky hands.

9. Hot glue the laminated cover to the ink pad lid.

10.  In order to get my velcro at the same level as the bottom of my ink pad, I cut a peice of wood to glue to the bottom so my velcro would work.

11. Peel the backing from the self adhesive velcro and attach at the top of the height board. This makes finding the ink when it's time to measure up very simple!

12. Have your child use the ink to mark their height (with your help) by creating a thumbprint! My little boy just turned one and so this is his first mark! I plan on measuring him each year so I will know each age by counting the thumbprints from the bottom up.

Spice Containers: Baby Food Jars

I finally finished! And I learned how to use my new Silhouette. Hallelujah! I made about 20 of these for my dad for his birthday/ house warming present.

 What you will need:
-Baby food jars with lids
-Silhouette (or something of that sort)
-Spray paint (for lids)
-vinyl
-Armour Etch

1. Clean your jars of all the stickiness from the labels. I found that if you spray them with WD-40 and then scrub them with an abrasive sponge, that works great.
2. Cut our your fonts in vinyl. I used font size 48.
3. Carefully cut out your labels and put them on the jars so the letters are taken out.
4. Apply Armour Etch to only the area inside your letters. Let set five minutes. Rinse. Dry. Then remove you labels and clean with window cleaner.
5. Paint several coats of spray paint on your lids.
6. I added another label to the top of the lids just for fun.
Then you're finished!

Fabulous Friends Wednesday: Scraps N' Strings

Welcome to another Fabulous Friends Wednesday! Today we have Scraps N' Strings with us!

Scraps N' Strings

Hello to Craft Envy readers! This is Ruth and Sammy from Scraps N' Strings and we are so excited to be doing our blog swap with Nicholette and Vanessa!  What a fun blog they have! We figure we had better introduce ourselves a bit before we start.
I'm Ruth and I am a stay at home mommy of 2 (3 and 1) and a part-time photographer, you can see my work here. I enjoy making "stuff" and taking pictures of them! I especially love to sew and like to break out the Modge Podge. I love anything that is quick and simple! After I got married, I started crafting with my sister-in-law Sammy as a way to make our homes cute without spending a lot of money.
My name is Sammy and I have 2 darling little boys, 2 1/2 and 1 year. I'm a stay at home mom and I like to spend my zero amount of free time trying to be crafty and beautifying my home. One of the first things my husband said to me when we bought our home was, "You want to put crafts up, don't you?" So that's what I've done. And now we've decided to share some of our ideas with you! We've got a little bit of everything on our blog, from baby and home tutorials to recipes!
So on to the tutorial...
My niece needed a new skirt for a special day that she has coming up. My sister saw a skirt similar to this figured that I could make one for her instead of having to buy something. So here is my Pretty Petal Skirt.
First off I measured my niece around her waist twice and then cut 2 pieces of 1 1/2 in ribbon at that measurement. I then took the 2 pieces of ribbon and sewed them together right along the edge, wrong sides together.
Next I took some sheer satin and cut it to the width of my ribbon. I then folded it enough that the folded amount length went from the hip to the knee and pinned it all the way across.
I then ironed down the seam...
and sewed across the top right at the edge.
Next I took a white lining fabric and cut it to the width of the ribbon and the length just shorter than the satin. I used my rolled hemming foot on my machine to finish off the bottom, but if you don't have one, you can fold it over and use an iron to press the hem and then sew it across.
Next I laid down first my lining fabric, then the satin, and then the ribbon on top- hem up.
And sewed all the way across, again right at the edge, making sure to catch all layers.
Then I took some petals and stuffed them into the satin part of the skirt
And then turned the two edges together and sewed the skirt shut in a loop, leaving only the ribbon part unsewn.
Then I spread the flowers throughout the skirt and threaded a 1in green ribbon through the pink ribbon and cinched the skirt around her waist and tied a bow.
And then I let her play, because what fun is Pretty Petal Skirt if you don't get to play in it?!

Make sure to check out our blog for a ton more fun projects including baby gifts...
and more...
 You won't be disappointed!
Thanks again ladies for letting us visit! We had a blast!
