Necklace Holder

Here is a simple tutorial on how to make a necklace holder. Very useful if your necklace are sitting in a tupperware container getting tangled (like mine!).

 What you will need:
- Peice of wood
-nails
-spraypaint for nails
-paint for wood
-ribbon
-coordinating buttons or flat bead
-hot glue

PS This project cost me a grand total of $3! Most of the stuff I just had on hand!

1. Sand your wood edges and paint the wood. I used acrylic paint and then added a coat of spray lacquer. Spray paint the nails holding the pointy side (since that part won't be seen).

 2. After your wood dries, hot glue your ribbon to the back of your board.

3. Nail your nails in and spaced evenly apart. Hot glue your buttons or beads to the top of each nail.

Silhouette Giveaway ends TODAY!!! Fall Project Tutorial

Hey friends!  Just wanted to remind you to stop by Mom It Forward today and enter the giveaway for the Silhouette SD!  It ends tonight at midnight EST.  You don't want to miss it!

Here is the tutorial I shared with the Mom It Forward readers this week.  Hope you enjoy it!

Today I’d like to share with you a project inspired by a walk I had with my girls.  We kept finding such beautiful leaves, in all different colors, and they decided to bring them home.  So I thought, why not hang up these beautiful findings to celebrate Fall?  It would also give me the opportunity to try out the Silhouette SD!  What an amazing machine!  Installing it was cake, and after checking out the tutorial on their website, using it was as easy as can be.  I decided to use it for vinyl cutting, so here we go:
What you"ll need:
- 3 sheets of cute scrapbook paper
- 3 wood frames
- 3 acrylic paint colors of your choice
- vinyl (for lettering)
- pretty ribbon in fall colors
- pretty leaves you've pressed for a few days
- staple gun
Not pictured:
- sponge brushes, laminator, scissors, double sided tape
1. Cut scrapbook paper to shape of frames Match leaves to your favorite background and attach it with double sided tape.
2. Laminate your leaves and trim lamination to fit your picture frames.
3. Paint each of your frames and let it dry.  This is a good time to decide which background will go with each frame.
4. This is where the Silhouette came in!  I just chose what I wanted to write on my frames and what font I wanted to use.  Place your vinyl on the tray and that's it!  The Silhouette did the rest!  Carefully remove the letters from the tray and place them on your frame however you want.
Don't they look awesome?
5. Turn your frames upside down, measure the distance you'd like to leave in between each frame, and pull out your ribbon.

Make sure to staple at the top and bottom of each frame so it will hang nicely.

There is your beautiful fall project!
I'm sure it will look great on your wall at home.  I loved working with the Silhouette, and I'm sure you will too!

Fabulous Friends Wednesday: Many Creative Gifts

Welcome to Fabulous Friends Wednesday! Today we have Phyllis from Many Creative Gifts visiting with us!

She has a tutorial on crocheting from cassette tapes...

Oh, come on, admit it, you probably have a bag (or more) tucked away somewhere that is full of cassette tapes.  Here are a couple of the ones I dug out just recently as I was cleaning out my storage bin.

Look familiar?!  Hard to believe that's Peter Frampton if you've seen him recently.

Anyway, it got me thinking about an article that I read in Inside Crochet magazine about crocheting with it!  So, I rewound the tape as best as I could, considering I couldn't find my tape player, cut it at the beginning, and started to pull some out.  I am using an H hook below.

(I kept some of the pink part at the very beginning).  I remembered from the article that you should be sure that your hands are dry and avoid doing it in humidity (a great fall and winter project!).  Now, the article also said to scrunch up the tape before using it, but that really wasn't working for me, so I just kept pulling it out and keeping it loose to make my chains and stitches.

For good or bad, it's hard to know where the hook should be inserted, so I just winged it and made as many single crochet stitches across as I felt like I wanted to (I didn't even count, but of course, that would be a good way of ensuring some form of consistency and evenness :-).  Here's what a couple of rows of single crochet look like.

The "fabric" is surprisingly soft, so a scarf or something to wear is not out of the question.  I'm not really sure what I'm going to make, but I've got plenty of tapes to experiment with!  Please post your suggestions here and some pictures on our Facebook page!  Once I come up with a project, I'll post more too.

Elmer's Challenge: Trick or Treat Container

Elmer's glue sent me this box of awesome crafting tools to use to craft something creative! Isn't beautiful to behold...

And this is what I made...
It's a trick or treat can for my lil' boy!

Here are the tools I used:
  • CraftBond™Adhesive Squares
  • CraftBond™ Glue Spots, Thin-small
  • CraftBond™ Gel Pens
  • CraftBond™ extra strength Glue Sticks
  •  CraftBond™ Permanent double-sided tape
  • X-ACTO® Designer Series 8" Scissors
  • X-ACTO® Designer Series 6" Precision Tip Scissors
  • X-ACTO® Designer Series 12" Metal Ruler
  • X-ACTO® Designer Craft Swivel Knife
  • white cardstock and purple cardstock
  • CraftBond™ Foam Mounting Tape
  • X-ACTO® Designer Series Decorative Edge Scissors - Zig Zag Pack
  • X-ACTO® Designer Retractable #1 Craft Knife
  • X-ACTO® Self-Healing Craft Mat

1. First I printed a side profile picture of my little boy, traced it and added a top hat. It doesn't have to look perfect (as you can see)...

2. Then I used an Elmer's gluestick to stick that paper to the purple paper that I actually wanted to silhouette to be on.

3. Then, I took the X-acto swivel craft knife to cut out the silhoutte on top of my X-acto cutting mat.

 4. Using the x-acto precision cutting scissors, I cut an oval that I printed off the computer to put behind the silhouette.
5. To create a formal looking frame, I used a pair of the x-acto scrapbook scissors and cut around the white oval.
 6. Then I used an extra strength Elmer's gluestick to glue the three pieces together.

7. Using a Craftbond gel pen in the color gold, I traced around the silhouette boy to give it an antique touch.
 8. I spray painted a no. 10 can in glossy black to use as the container.
9. I cut strips of ribbon with my x-acto scissors and measured them with the ruler, to span the length of the can, plus some to attach to the top and button. I cut five of these.
 10. Using Craftbond double-sided permanent tape and Craftbond adhesive squares, I attached the ribbons to the can.

11. To cover up the ribbons folded over inside the can, I ran a couple of ribbons with the double-sided tape and adhesive squares around the opening.

12. I used Craftbond glue spots to attach my silhouette to the front of the trick or treat container.

13. For an added measure of protection for the candy, I added this i.d. tag...
I used Craftbond gel pens to decorate it and foam mounting tape to give it depth. I stuck this on the bottom of the can.
14. For the handle, I curled a wire hanger and spray painted it black. For the handle I used a black rubber hose and cut it down with the retractable knife.
