What you will need:
-At least 12 ties
-1/2 yard of tulle
-fabric to line inside
-sewing machine
-elastic
1. First thing you want to do it cut open the back of the ties (see picture). And the sew the ties together.
2. It will look like crap but don't worry about that just yet. Now you can sew on the inside lining and tulle.
3. Then fold over the top inside of the skirt and place elastic inside. Sew shut. It helps to have a color of thread that won't stand out...I didn't have any obviously.
Really you can just make it up as you go...that's what I did.
That is CUTE! It would be adorable on Father's day!
ReplyDeleteLove this! I might have to try it for my nieces!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing!
Teresa-
It's cute! And I agree with the previous poster about it being perfect for Father's Day.
ReplyDeleteHere's one of my dirty sewing secrets...I'm sometimes lazy about changing the thread in my sewing machine when I should and have been known, on occasion, to use a permanent sharpie to tone down bright thread on a dark background (=
i totally love this!! i want to make it in adult size!

ReplyDeleteGreat job! I bought a bunch of ties off ebay about 6 years ago intending on doing this for my daughter...but didn't get far with it. I hated how the silk stretches so much when you unpick the sides. but yours looks great. Love the tulle at the bottom. You have inspired me to try again!
ReplyDeleteWow. This is so inventive and with the tulle it is so in style. My granddaughter loves tulle and skirts. Very nice.
ReplyDeleteCute and clever!
